Meet Eh & Cher

Eh & Cher were forced to leave their home country of Burma in 2003 due to persecution as members of the minority Karen people group. After spending 17 years as refugees in neighboring Thailand, Eh, Cher, and their two children were resettled in Akron in August 2020 during the height of the pandemic. 

After renting for three years, Eh & Cher desired to buy a home in North Hill, but struggled to find an affordable house for sale in the neighborhood. In the midst of this discouragement, Eh & Cher learned about Legacies of Success. They applied and were accepted into our Future Homeowner program, through which they received mentorship about the homebuying process and learned valuable home maintenance skills while volunteering on Saturday workdays.

​Since becoming homeowners, Eh and Cher have invested in their house through several home improvement projects. It has been a joy to see them care for their home and take pride in being homeowners.
